7 Miles El Progresso started its existence in the early 1970s. At that time it was a private land. Owners started to sell parcels to interested parties. The government then realized that declaring that area as national land would give settlers access to what is now 7 Miles El Progresso. Later, in 1990, the village was officially recognized by the Government of Belize.
